She wants to be an airline pilot after graduation, but already is flying several times a week - three times as a student and another one to five times as a flight instructor for beginning students.

Now in her fourth year, she expects to graduate in December with a professional pilot degree. Susan Amstutz, of Tulsa, entered the program right out of high school. It was the only Big XII school ranked in the top 100.Īviation - another degree program administered by OU Outreach - requires students to come to campus. News & World Report's 2016 list of Best Online Bachelor's Programs, ranked OU 30th out of 217 universities included. It might be for a job promotion or simply to take care of unfinished business. "They often have a compelling personal reason," Pappas said. Online students usually are spending their own hard-earned money for their education, he said. "The myth is online is easier," Pappas said. The college offers online and distance-learning degrees to working adults, many of whom earned some college credits before life got in the way, said Jim Pappas, vice president for Outreach and dean of the college. The degrees in administrative leadership and criminal justice are among several available through the College of Liberal Studies, one arm of OU Outreach. "I've had a really great experience with the program," Almanza said. He obtained a two-year degree, then transferred to OU. "I always was interested in law and had a passion for civil rights advocacy," Almanza said.Īfter high school he went straight to work, but "down the line I realized education was important to me."
He is a husband, father and coach who works 40 hour a week, in addition to completing assignments for a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
